The fourteen Stations of the Cross around Christ
Fourteen scenes of the Passion surround a central image of Christ blessing and holding an open book. The composition gathers the traditional Stations of the Cross onto one wooden panel, allowing the whole devotional sequence to remain in view.
The Way of the Cross follows Jesus from his condemnation to his burial. It grew from devotion to the places of his Passion in Jerusalem and became a way of making that spiritual journey without traveling there. The traditional sequence includes both Gospel episodes and scenes developed in Christian devotional tradition.
The smaller scenes are marked with Roman numerals. Follow those numbers, rather than simply reading the panel from left to right: the central Christ remains the visual focus while the surrounding images guide successive meditations.
Made in Poland on linden wood
Art Christiana makes this icon to order on a linden-wood board with two coats of primer. The image is printed directly onto the prepared surface and finished with decorative gold-tone metal leaf (schlagmetal). A certificate bearing the production year and a hanging fixture are attached to the back.
