Description
Seven Sorrows of Mary: devotion at the foot of the Cross
The devotion to the Seven Sorrows contemplates the suffering endured by the Blessed Virgin Mary in union with her Son: Simeon’s prophecy, the flight into Egypt, the loss of the young Jesus, the meeting on the road to Calvary, the Crucifixion, Christ’s body taken down from the Cross, and his burial. Rather than treating sorrow as an end in itself, the devotion follows Mary’s faithful presence throughout the mystery of salvation.
Iconography and theological meaning
Mary is depicted with seven swords piercing or surrounding her heart. The swords visualize Simeon’s prophecy that a sword would pierce her soul and gather the seven sorrows into one recognizable image. Her prayerful expression joins grief with steadfast trust and keeps the composition centered on Christ’s Passion.
For prayer and Christian devotion
The Seven Sorrows of Mary icon is appropriate for a home prayer corner, Marian chapel, bereavement ministry, or retreat space. It can accompany the Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows and prayer for those carrying grief, family hardship, or concern for a suffering loved one.
Crafted on linden wood in Poland
Made to order by Art Christiana in Poland, the icon is printed directly on a double-primed linden-wood board and enriched with decorative gold-tone schlagmetal. A hanging fixture and certificate with the year of production are attached on the reverse.
