Saint Susanna of Rome: virgin martyr and witness of fidelity

Saint Susanna is venerated as a Roman virgin martyr associated with the Diocletian persecution at the beginning of the fourth century. Her surviving account is a later Christian Passion rather than a contemporary record; it presents her as refusing both a marriage into the imperial circle and participation in pagan worship. The tradition remembers her for fidelity to Christ maintained under political and family pressure.

Iconography and spiritual meaning

Susanna is shown holding a vessel, an attribute that in this composition evokes purity, readiness for service, and a life offered to God. Her dignified frontal posture and halo identify her as a martyr whose victory lies in steadfast confession rather than worldly power. The image is best read within the Church’s devotional tradition while recognizing the limits of the early historical evidence.

For prayer and Christian devotion

The Saint Susanna icon is suited to a home prayer corner, chapel, parish room, or place of formation. It is a thoughtful Catholic gift for someone named Susanna, for Confirmation, or for those praying for integrity and courage under pressure.

Crafted on linden wood in Poland

Made to order by Art Christiana in Poland, the icon is printed directly on a double-primed linden-wood board and accented with decorative gold-tone schlagmetal. A hanging fixture and certificate with the year of production are attached on the reverse.
