Description
Icon of Saint Mark the Evangelist
Saint Mark is honored as one of the four Evangelists and, in early Christian tradition, as a close associate and interpreter of Saint Peter. His Gospel opens with the voice crying in the wilderness and presents Christ’s ministry with directness and urgency. This wooden icon places the saint within the Church’s living tradition of Scripture, proclamation, and apostolic witness.
Iconography and spiritual meaning
Saint Mark holds a richly ornamented Gospel book, the defining sign of his vocation as an Evangelist. His conventional emblem is the winged lion, one of the four living creatures associated with the Evangelists: the lion recalls both the wilderness at the beginning of his Gospel and the royal strength of Christ. The frontal, prayerful composition directs attention to the sacred text rather than to narrative action.
For prayer and Christian devotion
The icon is suited to a home prayer corner, chapel, parish room, theological library, or the workspace of a reader, writer, catechist, or preacher. It can also be chosen as a baptismal, confirmation, ordination, or name-day gift for someone under Saint Mark’s patronage.
Crafted on linden wood in Poland
Made to order in Poland on a double-primed linden-wood panel. The sacred image is printed directly onto the prepared wood, while selected areas are finished with decorative gold-tone schlagmetal. A rear hanger allows the icon to be displayed, and the accompanying certificate records its year of production.
