Saint John Vianney Icon – Patron Saint of Parish Priests
The Saint John Vianney Icon depicts the French priest known throughout the world as the Curé of Ars. He is shown wearing priestly vestments, with his hands joined in prayer and a calm, contemplative expression. The luminous gold background emphasizes the holiness of a man who devoted his life to prayer, pastoral service and leading people back to God.
Saint John Vianney – the holy Curé of Ars
Saint John Mary Vianney was born in France in 1786 to a humble farming family. His path to the priesthood was difficult because he struggled with formal studies, especially Latin. Through perseverance, prayer and the support of those who recognized his sincere vocation, he was eventually ordained a priest.
In 1818, Father Vianney was assigned to the small village of Ars. Through personal holiness, simple but powerful sermons, penance and tireless service in the confessional, he transformed the spiritual life of the local community. Over time, thousands of people traveled to Ars seeking Confession, guidance and reconciliation with God.
Saint John Vianney spoke honestly about sin but always directed people toward God’s mercy. His ministry made Ars an important place of pilgrimage. He is honored as the patron saint of parish priests and a model for all clergy and confessors. His feast day is celebrated on August 4.
Saint John Vianney icon on gilded linden wood
The image is created using direct-print technology on a solid linden wood panel that has been primed and hand-gilded with imitation gold leaf. The design is printed directly onto the prepared gilded surface, preserving the natural colors, facial details and folds of the priestly vestments.
The textured gold background reflects light beautifully and gives the Icon of Saint John Vianney a refined, traditional appearance. Natural linden wood provides durability, making the icon a lasting devotional item.
A meaningful gift for a priest or seminarian
The Saint John Vianney Icon is an especially thoughtful gift for ordination, a First Mass, a priestly anniversary, entry into seminary or the beginning of a new parish assignment. It may be presented to a parish priest, confessor, spiritual director, seminarian or anyone named John.
Displayed in a rectory, parish office, sacristy, chapel, seminary or personal prayer space, the icon serves as a reminder of humble service, faithful prayer and the importance of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
