Saint John Paul II Icon with Rosary

Saint John Paul II was born Karol Józef Wojtyła in Wadowice, Poland, in 1920. He studied for the priesthood in Krakow during the Nazi occupation, was ordained in 1946, and later served as Archbishop of Krakow. Elected pope on October 16, 1978, he began his public ministry six days later. His long pontificate included extensive pastoral travel, teaching on the dignity of the human person, dialogue across nations and religions, and a strong call to the new evangelization. He died in 2005 and was canonized on April 27, 2014. His liturgical memorial is October 22.

Prayerful hands, rosary, and papal vesture

The icon portrays John Paul II with hands joined in prayer and a rosary wrapped around his fingers. This visible attribute is especially appropriate because his Marian devotion was expressed in the motto Totus Tuus and in sustained promotion of the Rosary. The white papal garments and red liturgical vestment identify his ecclesial office, while the halo marks his canonization. The gold field places the recognizable modern portrait within the visual language of sacred art.

Crafted on linden wood in Poland

Art Christiana makes this icon in Poland on a carefully prepared linden wood board. The surface receives two primer coats, hand-applied metal leaf and a directly transferred image. A certificate and hanging fixture are fitted on the reverse, and the icon arrives in a protective presentation box.

The Saint John Paul II icon suits a home prayer corner, chapel, rectory, Catholic school, Polish community center, or memorial setting. It is a thoughtful gift for priests, pilgrims, families, educators, young adults, and people devoted to the Rosary or the legacy of the Polish pope.
