Description

Saint John Henry Newman: conscience in the service of truth

Saint John Henry Newman (1801–1890) was an Anglican clergyman and leading figure in the Oxford Movement before entering the Catholic Church in 1845. A theologian, preacher, educator, and later cardinal, he wrote with exceptional depth on conscience, faith and reason, university education, and the development of Christian doctrine. His long search for truth made intellectual honesty inseparable from obedience to God.

Iconography and theological meaning

Newman wears red cardinal’s dress and holds a scroll bearing words from his well-known meditation on a definite mission given by God. The scroll interprets vocation as providential and personal, while the cardinal’s red, pectoral cross, halo, and gentle expression unite scholarship with pastoral humility.

For prayer and Christian devotion

Ideal for a study, school, university office, seminary, or prayer corner, this image encourages honest inquiry, fidelity to conscience, trust in Providence, and perseverance when the path toward truth is costly.

Crafted on linden wood in Poland

The image is printed directly onto a double-primed linden wood panel and finished with decorative gold leaf. Each made-to-order piece is produced in Poland, includes a certificate with the year of production, and has a hanger on the back. Natural wood, a luminous gold field, and precise contemporary drawing create sacred art suited to a home prayer corner, chapel, rectory, or a carefully chosen Catholic gift.
