Description
Saint John the Baptist: forerunner and witness to Christ
Saint John the Baptist, son of Zechariah and Elizabeth, was sent to prepare the way of the Lord. He preached conversion in the wilderness, baptized in the Jordan, and identified Jesus as the Lamb of God. His fearless call to repentance brought him into conflict with Herod Antipas and led to his martyrdom. Christian tradition honors him as the Forerunner because his entire mission points toward Christ.
Iconography and theological meaning
John is shown with a cross-staff and scroll, attributes of his prophetic vocation. The slender cross anticipates the Passion of Christ, while the scroll represents the message he proclaimed: repent and prepare the way of the Lord. His ascetic appearance recalls the desert, where silence, fasting, and truth shaped his witness.
For prayer and Christian devotion
The Saint John the Baptist icon is fitting for a home prayer corner, baptistry, chapel, retreat house, or parish office. It can accompany prayer during Advent and Lent and is a thoughtful Catholic gift for clergy, catechists, godparents, and those seeking renewal of life.
Crafted on linden wood in Poland
Art Christiana produces the icon to order in Poland on a double-primed linden-wood board. The image is printed directly on the prepared surface and accented with decorative gold-tone schlagmetal. A hanging fixture and certificate stating the year of production are fitted on the reverse.
