Saint Constantine the Great Icon
Constantine I, remembered as Constantine the Great, was the Roman emperor whose reign changed the public position of Christianity. In 313 he and Licinius established religious toleration and the restoration of confiscated Christian property through the agreement commonly called the Edict of Milan. Constantine later convoked the First Council of Nicaea in 325. Eastern Christian tradition honors him as a saint and Equal to the Apostles, while his complex imperial career belongs to the history of late antiquity.
Imperial crown and cross
The icon identifies Constantine through jeweled imperial robes and a crown.
