Sacred Heart of Jesus: divine love revealed

The Sacred Heart devotion contemplates the human heart of Christ as the visible sign of his divine love for humanity. Its biblical center is the pierced side of Jesus on the Cross, from which blood and water flowed. The devotion took clearer liturgical form through medieval spirituality and the seventeenth-century visions associated with Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, calling Christians to gratitude, reparation, and trust in Christ’s mercy.

Iconography and theological meaning

Christ stands with his arms extended in welcome while the radiant Heart appears on his chest. Flames signify the intensity of divine love; the crown of thorns and wound recall the Passion; the cross rising above the Heart shows that this love is sacrificial. The open gesture gives the composition the character of an invitation rather than a distant portrait.

For prayer and Christian devotion

This Sacred Heart of Jesus icon is suited to family consecration, Eucharistic prayer, a home altar, chapel, parish office, or retreat house. It offers a clear focus for prayer centered on mercy, reconciliation, and confidence in Christ.
