Description

A chalice and Host are embroidered on the red jacquard of this chasuble. The Eucharistic subject and patterned fabric give the model its particular character. The design can be considered for celebrations requiring red, with the imagery assessed in relation to the texts and character of the liturgy.

Embroidery and construction

Jacquard fabric provides the background for the chalice and Host. Gold-colored embroidery and gold edging complete the decoration. The gallery shows the whole garment and close-up details, allowing the patterned textile and the Eucharistic motif to be assessed as one composition.

Liturgical use

In the Roman liturgy, red is associated with the fire of the Holy Spirit, the blood of Christ and the witness of martyrs. It is used on Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Pentecost and specified celebrations of apostles, evangelists and martyrs. Follow the calendar and rubrics for the particular celebration. Color alone does not make every decorative motif equally suitable: consider the embroidery alongside the readings and character of the liturgy.

Choosing the chasuble

Judge fit and decoration together. Compare the length in the final table with a garment that already fits, then examine the front and back proportions in the gallery. The visibility of the chalice and Host under sanctuary lighting is a useful consideration alongside the textile pattern.

Wearing and storage

Wear the chasuble over the alb and stole, arranging it symmetrically on the shoulders before entering the sanctuary. Check that the arms can be raised freely and that the central embroidery is not folded. After use, allow the fabric to dry fully before hanging it on a broad hanger that supports the shoulders.

Store the vestment in a dry, ventilated wardrobe, protected from strong light and moisture. Leave enough space to prevent other garments pressing against the embroidery and collar. Follow the supplied care label for cleaning, ironing and refreshing; decorative threads, edging and any velvet elements need particular care.
