Description

Gold-colored cross embroidery on a band forms the principal decoration of this red chasuble. Design IV presents its own arrangement of the motif within the band, keeping the cross central to the overall appearance. The set includes an inner stole.

Embroidery and construction

The band organizes the gold-colored embroidery into an ordered liturgical composition. The seven photographs show the garment as a whole and include close views of the ornament and neckline. Compare the front and back views to assess the proportions and the relationship of the band to the red background.

Liturgical use

In the Roman liturgy, red is associated with the fire of the Holy Spirit, the blood of Christ and the witness of martyrs. It is used on Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Pentecost and specified celebrations of apostles, evangelists and martyrs. Follow the calendar and rubrics for the particular celebration. Color alone does not make every decorative motif equally suitable: consider the embroidery alongside the readings and character of the liturgy.

Choosing the chasuble

For a shared sacristy, compare the length in the final table with the vestments used by the priests who most often celebrate. Full photographs help assess the side drape and the position of the cross relative to the shoulders. Consider the cross motif alongside the Passion readings of Palm Sunday and Good Friday and celebrations of martyrs.

Wearing and storage

Wear the chasuble over the alb and stole, arranging it symmetrically on the shoulders before entering the sanctuary. Check that the arms can be raised freely and that the central embroidery is not folded. After use, allow the fabric to dry fully before hanging it on a broad hanger that supports the shoulders.

Store the vestment in a dry, ventilated wardrobe, protected from strong light and moisture. Leave enough space to prevent other garments pressing against the embroidery and collar. Follow the supplied care label for cleaning, ironing and refreshing; decorative threads, edging and any velvet elements need particular care.
