Pope Saint Leo the Great: defender of Christological faith

Pope Saint Leo I, called Leo the Great, led the Church from 440 to 461. His preaching and his celebrated Tome helped articulate the Church’s confession that Jesus Christ is truly divine and truly human, a teaching received at the Council of Chalcedon. Leo also worked for the peace and protection of Rome and is honored as a Doctor of the Church.

Iconography and theological meaning

Leo appears in ancient episcopal vesture, holding the Gospel and raising his hand in blessing. The book points to his biblical preaching and doctrinal teaching; the cross-marked vestment identifies his pastoral office. His solemn frontal gaze and halo present authority as a responsibility to preserve truth and serve communion.

For prayer and Christian devotion

A fitting image for clergy, theologians, teachers, and church leaders, it supports prayer for courage, clarity in teaching, wise diplomacy, and steadfast confession of the person of Christ.

Crafted on linden wood in Poland

The image is printed directly onto a double-primed linden wood panel and finished with decorative gold leaf. Each made-to-order piece is produced in Poland, includes a certificate with the year of production, and has a hanger on the back. Natural wood, a luminous gold field, and precise contemporary drawing create sacred art suited to a home prayer corner, chapel, rectory, or a carefully chosen Catholic gift.
