Description
Our Lady of the Snows – Salus Populi Romani: history and devotional meaning
Salus Populi Romani, “Protectress of the Roman People,” is the ancient Marian image venerated in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome and traditionally linked with Our Lady of the Snows.
Iconography and theology
Mary holds the blessing Christ Child in a solemn Hodegetria composition. The restrained gesture and dark mantle emphasize authority, protection, and enduring prayer for the people of God.
For prayer and sacred spaces
This religious icon is suited to a home prayer corner, chapel, parish office, or as a meaningful Catholic gift. Its purpose is devotional: to support attentive prayer and lead contemplation toward Christ.
Crafted in Poland
Art Christiana produces the icon in Poland on a carefully prepared linden-wood board. The surface is double-primed, enriched with hand-applied metal leaf, and finished with a direct image-transfer process. A certificate and hanging fixture are fitted on the reverse, and the icon is supplied in a protective presentation box.
