Our Lady, Seeker of the Lost
Seeker of the Lost is an English rendering of the Slavonic Marian title Vzyskanie Pogibshikh, also translated as Seeker of the Perishing. The devotion gives language to prayer for people affected by despair, poverty, addiction, illness, or spiritual estrangement. Orthodox tradition preserves several visual versions of this title. The image therefore supports intercessory prayer, but it should not be treated as an object that guarantees rescue, healing, or reconciliation.
A naturalistic Mother and Child image
This version differs clearly from the more stylized Eleusa composition sold under the same title. Mary appears in a dark blue mantle over a red garment, with folded hands and a calm frontal pose. The standing Christ Child leans close to her face and rests an arm across her upper chest. Soft modeling of the faces and garments gives the image a Western naturalistic character, while the Greek abbreviations and gold field retain familiar elements of Eastern Christian sacred art.
