Icon of Our Lady of Liche�, Sorrowful Queen of Poland
This devotional rendering preserves the distinctive features of the revered image at the sanctuary in Liche�: Mary's crowned, sorrowful face, a richly ornamented gold mantle, the Polish eagle at her breast, a red field, stars, and attending angels. The national emblems and royal crown explain the title Queen of Poland, while the downcast gaze belongs to the image's title as Our Lady of Sorrows.
The Liche� image became a major focus of Polish Marian devotion in the nineteenth century. Pope Paul VI granted a decree for its papal coronation, carried out by Cardinal Stefan Wyszy�ski on August 15, 1967. The sanctuary itself describes the coronation as recognition of an established cult; this product text therefore does not present reported apparitions or healings as independently proven facts. The icon is suited to Marian prayer, a Polish Catholic home, chapel, parish room, or a gift recalling faith and national religious heritage.
