Description
Our Lady of Fatima in a blue mantle
Our Lady of Fatima recalls the Marian apparitions reported by Lúcia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto in Portugal in 1917. Their accounts connect the devotion with the Rosary, conversion and prayer for peace. In 1930, the Bishop of Leiria declared the apparitions worthy of belief and authorized the associated devotion.
This version shows Mary wearing a crown and a blue mantle with gold-colored ornament over a white garment. Her hands are joined in prayer, with rosary beads and a cross hanging below. The blue mantle distinguishes this composition from all-white Fatima images. It is a devotional interpretation of the subject, not a reconstruction of the children's reported vision.
Made in Poland on linden wood
Art Christiana makes this icon to order on a linden-wood board with two coats of primer. The image is printed directly onto the prepared surface and finished with decorative gold-tone metal leaf (schlagmetal). A certificate bearing the production year and a hanging fixture are attached to the back.
The icon can be placed beside a family's rosary prayer space or used in a parish room for Marian devotion. The joined hands and visible rosary connect the image directly with the practice of prayer.
