Mother Thrice Admirable of Schoenstatt

The Mother Thrice Admirable, often called the MTA, is the Marian image associated with the Schoenstatt Movement. A print of Luigi Crosio's Madonna and Child was placed in the original shrine in April 1915, after the movement's founding in 1914. The title Mater Ter Admirabilis had earlier been used in Marian devotion in Ingolstadt.

This version shows Mary holding the Child Jesus against her chest. She wears a pale veil and blue mantle over red clothing; the Child wears a light garment and rests a hand near her shoulder. Halos, inscriptions and clouds at the lower edge distinguish this icon-style adaptation from a simple reproduction of the original painting.

Made in Poland on linden wood

Art Christiana makes this icon to order on a linden-wood board with two coats of primer. The image is printed directly onto the prepared surface and finished with decorative gold-tone metal leaf (schlagmetal). A certificate bearing the production year and a hanging fixture are attached to the back.

The icon can serve as an image for a Schoenstatt home shrine or a family prayer corner. It provides a setting for the Rosary and prayer linked to the movement's covenant of love with Mary; the spiritual practice is not reduced to owning the object.
