Mother of God the Healer icon in the Eleusa tradition

The devotional title Mother of God the Healer expresses Christian prayer for the sick and for those who care for them, while keeping Christ as the source of healing and salvation. This reproduction does not display a distinctive historical Healer prototype. Its visible composition belongs instead to the Eleusa, or Tenderness, family: Mary holds the Christ Child close and their faces meet in an intimate gesture. The description therefore distinguishes the devotional title from the iconographic type actually shown.

Tenderness and compassionate presence

Mary's red mantle is patterned with gold, and the Child reaches toward her face while resting in her arms. The joined cheeks emphasize the reality of the Incarnation and the compassionate nearness of Christ. Christian prayer may ask for strength, wisdom and care during illness, but an icon is not a medical device and does not promise healing. Veneration passes through the image to the holy persons represented, not to the wooden object.

For prayer during illness and caregiving

The icon may accompany prayer for patients, families, physicians, nurses and caregivers. It can be placed in a home prayer corner, pastoral room or chapel and offered as a sensitive religious gift during recovery. Devotional prayer can support responsible care, but it should never replace diagnosis, treatment or professional medical help.

Crafted on linden wood in Poland

Art Christiana makes this icon in Poland on a carefully prepared linden wood board. The surface receives two primer coats, hand-applied metal leaf and a directly transferred image. A certificate and hanging fixture are fitted on the reverse, and the icon arrives in a protective presentation box.
