The Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary
The paired Hearts bring together two related Catholic devotions without placing Christ and Mary on the same level. The Sacred Heart contemplates the human heart of the incarnate Son as a sign of divine love poured out in the Paschal mystery. The Immaculate Heart reflects Mary's interior faith, maternal love and participation as a disciple in her Son's saving work. Scripture provides the theological foundation in Christ's pierced side in John 19 and Simeon's prophecy that a sword would pierce Mary's soul in Luke 2; the familiar visual forms developed later in Catholic devotion.
Flames, thorns, cross and flowers
Jesus appears at the left, extending an open hand. His exposed Heart is encircled with thorns, surmounted by a cross and flame, signs of sacrificial love, suffering and living charity. Mary points toward her radiant Heart, surrounded here by small white flowers and topped with a flame. The flowers emphasize purity and faithful love; this particular design does not show the sword found in some Immaculate Heart images. Their overlapping halos and coordinated gestures unite the composition, while the different attributes preserve the distinct theological meaning of each Heart.
Crafted on linden wood in Poland
Made to order in Poland on a double-primed linden wood panel, the image is printed directly onto the prepared surface and finished with decorative gold-tone metal leaf. A certificate recording the year of production and a wall hanger are included. This is a contemporary devotional icon, not an individually hand-painted work.
