Description
Saint John and the vision on Patmos
The Book of Revelation introduces John as a witness on the island of Patmos, entrusted with a message for the churches. This icon presents him kneeling before an angel holding an open book. Rocks and a building frame the encounter; above, two angels hold a curved scroll bearing the sun, moon and stars.
A composition drawn from Revelation
The open book recalls the angel's scroll in Revelation 10, while the heavens shown as a scroll echo Revelation 6:14. The image combines biblical motifs rather than illustrating a single moment literally. Christian tradition associates the seer with John the Evangelist; the book itself names its author John without calling him one of the Twelve.
Reading the image with Scripture
The icon can accompany Bible study or personal prayer focused on Revelation's call to faithful witness. Its central exchange between John and the angel directs attention toward receiving God's word. It is not a timetable of future events, and the celestial signs should be read within the book's symbolic language.
Made in Poland on linden wood
Art Christiana makes this icon to order on a linden-wood board with two coats of primer. The image is printed directly onto the prepared surface and finished with decorative gold-tone metal leaf (schlagmetal). A certificate bearing the production year and a hanging fixture are attached to the back.
