Description

The feeding of the five thousand in John 6

This icon presents the Gospel sign in which Jesus feeds a crowd with five barley loaves and two fish. John records that everyone ate their fill and that the disciples gathered twelve baskets of fragments so nothing would be wasted. The event reveals Christ's compassion and prepares the Bread of Life discourse that follows in the same chapter.

Reading the scene

Christ stands at the center holding and blessing the bread, while the apostles receive and distribute food to the people gathered around him. The boy with the loaves and fish recalls Andrew's words in John 6:9. Full baskets in the foreground point to the abundance remaining after the meal, and the mountainous setting follows the Gospel account of Jesus going up the mountain with his disciples.

For Eucharistic reflection and Christian service

The image supports meditation on gratitude, trust, responsible stewardship, and Christ's care for bodily and spiritual hunger. It is especially meaningful for a dining room, parish hall, food ministry, retreat house, or prayer corner. It can also serve as a religious gift for First Communion, a catechist, or anyone involved in feeding and serving others.

Crafted on linden wood in Poland

Art Christiana makes this icon in Poland on a carefully prepared linden wood board. The surface receives two primer coats, hand-applied metal leaf and a directly transferred image. A certificate and hanging fixture are fitted on the reverse, and the icon arrives in a protective presentation box.
