Saints Peter and Paul icon, pillars of the Church
The apostles stand together beneath Christ, who blesses them from heaven. Peter, shown as the older apostle, holds a tall cross and a scroll; Paul carries a book and the sword traditionally associated with his martyrdom and with the penetrating word of God. Their distinct faces and attributes preserve their different vocations while the shared gold field and central blessing unite their witness.
Peter confessed Jesus as the Messiah and received the keys of the kingdom; after failure and repentance, he was charged to strengthen Christ's flock. Paul, converted from persecutor to apostle, carried the Gospel among the Gentiles and left letters central to the New Testament. Ancient Christian tradition joins them in their witness and martyrdom at Rome, and the Church celebrates them together on June 29. The icon is suited to a parish, chapel, rectory, theology study, or as a gift for clergy, missionaries, converts, and people named Peter or Paul.
