Saint Wenceslaus, Christian ruler and Czech patron
Saint Wenceslaus was a tenth-century duke of Bohemia, formed in the Christian faith by his grandmother Saint Ludmila. Christian tradition remembers a young ruler who supported the Church, sought peace, cared for the poor, and placed public authority under the demands of the Gospel. He was killed at Stará Boleslav during conflict within his ruling family and was soon honored as a martyr. He remains the principal patron of the Czech lands and a model of responsible Christian leadership.
