Description
Saint Vincenza Maria Poloni and care for the sick
Vincenza Maria Poloni (1802-1855), born Luigia Poloni in Verona, helped establish the Sisters of Mercy of Verona with Carlo Steeb. Her work centered on people who were sick, elderly or in need of care. Pope Leo XIV canonized her on October 19, 2025.
The cross in her hands
The image shows the saint in a blue veil and garment, with white fabric framing her face and neck. She holds a cross before her, while the inscription identifies her by name. The cross can be read in relation to a life of Christian service: attention to another person's needs, daily care and prayer.
For prayer alongside a vocation of service
The icon can be placed in a personal prayer space or offered to someone involved in nursing, elder care or parish visiting. Her biography provides a concrete subject for reflection on mercy expressed through practical work. It also provides a point of reference for a parish group reflecting on the corporal works of mercy, especially visiting and caring for the sick.
Made in Poland on linden wood
Art Christiana makes this icon to order on a linden-wood board with two coats of primer. The image is printed directly onto the prepared surface and finished with decorative gold-tone metal leaf (schlagmetal). A certificate bearing the production year and a hanging fixture are attached to the back.
