Icon of Saint Kinga on Gilded Linden Wood
This premium icon depicts Saint Kinga, also known as Cunegunde of Poland – princess, abbess, philanthropist and one of the most important female saints in Central European history. Crafted on a durable primed linden wood panel, the icon ensures stability and longevity characteristic of traditional sacred art. The entire surface is covered with genuine gold leaf, giving it a rich, luminous appearance. The image is printed directly onto the gilded background, achieving exceptional clarity, vivid colors and refined details. Saint Kinga is shown wearing the Poor Clare habit and holding a model of a church, symbolizing her extensive charitable foundations and contribution to religious life in Poland.
Who was Saint Kinga? – princess, contemplative and protector of the people
Born in 1234 into the royal Hungarian House of Árpád, Kinga was married to Prince Boleslaus the Chaste. Their marriage, lived in mutual purity, became a testimony of spiritual dedication and shared service. Known for her compassion, political wisdom and generosity, Kinga introduced salt mining to Poland — a legend connected to the miraculous appearance of her ring in the Wieliczka salt deposit. After her husband’s death, she entered the Poor Clares in Stary Sącz, living a life of deep prayer, sacrifice and humility. She died in 1292 and was canonized in 1999 by Saint John Paul II. Today she is venerated as the patroness of miners, families, local authorities and people seeking spiritual integrity.
