Saint Joseph, guardian of Jesus and Mary
The Gospels call Joseph a just man and identify him as the husband of Mary and the legal father of Jesus. He receives God's guidance in dreams, takes Mary into his home, names the Child, protects the family during the flight into Egypt, and later settles with them in Nazareth. Scripture records no spoken words from Joseph; his vocation is shown through attentive action. Catholic tradition therefore honors him as Patron of the Universal Church and as a model of fatherhood, work, obedience, and quiet care.
