Saint Bartolo Longo – from darkness into holiness

Saint Bartolo Longo (1841–1926) stands as one of the most remarkable examples of conversion in Church history. In his youth, he became involved in spiritualism and occult practices, which led him into psychological and spiritual turmoil. Through the help of friends and the guidance of Dominican Father Alberto Radente, he experienced a profound conversion that reshaped his entire life. He joined the Dominican Third Order and dedicated himself completely to the Virgin Mary and the promotion of the Rosary.

He founded the majestic Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Pompeii and established numerous charitable institutions, including homes for orphans and children of prisoners. His life became a testimony to the transformative power of divine mercy: a man stepping out of darkness to become the Apostle of the Rosary.
