Saint Andrew Bobola, Jesuit priest and martyr

Saint Andrew Bobola (1591-1657) preached and served Catholic communities in the eastern lands of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. His missionary work included the region of Pińsk, where he became known for bringing religious instruction to people living far from established centers of pastoral care.

Captured during the conflicts of the seventeenth century, he was killed at Janów Poleski in 1657. Pope Pius XI canonized him in 1938. His memory belongs especially to Polish Catholic devotion and the Jesuit tradition, with an emphasis on perseverance in faith.

The icon shows Bobola in dark clerical clothing, with a gray beard and his gaze directed upward. A halo and gold-tone ground frame the portrait; the restrained composition focuses attention on the missionary himself.

Made in Poland on linden wood

Art Christiana makes this icon to order on a linden-wood board with two coats of primer. The image is printed directly onto the prepared surface and finished with decorative gold-tone metal leaf (schlagmetal). A certificate bearing the production year and a hanging fixture are attached to the back.

A suitable image for a home prayer corner, a Jesuit community or a gift connected with the name Andrew and Polish Christian heritage.
