Our Lady Pneumatophora Icon
Pneumatophora means Spirit-bearer, a title that directs attention to Mary's unique relationship with the Holy Spirit. The Church teaches that the Spirit prepared Mary, filled her with grace, and brought about the Incarnation in her. She also appears praying with the disciples before Pentecost. This image is a modern devotional composition rather than a literal scene from one Gospel passage or a universally fixed ancient icon type.

Mary is shown with lowered eyes, holding a white dove before her chest. In Christian art the dove is an established sign of the Holy Spirit, especially through the Gospel accounts of Christ's Baptism.
