Mary beneath the starry mantle
Our Lady of the Starry Mantle is a descriptive devotional title centered on Mary's dark blue, star-covered garment. Christian tradition frequently uses the star as a Marian image because Mary guides believers toward Christ, the source of light and salvation. This composition should not automatically be identified with the twelve-star woman of Revelation 12 or with a specific reported apparition: the many scattered stars are primarily the defining visual language of this particular image.
Blue field of stars and the Child at Mary's side
Mary inclines her head toward Jesus and supports him upright at her side with both hands. Her deep blue mantle is scattered with bright stars and edged in pale gold, while a white veil frames her face above a red garment. The Child wears a light robe patterned with blue circles and rests close to her shoulder. Gold halos, Greek sacred abbreviations, and the luminous field identify Mother and Son. The combination of stars and close contact joins cosmic imagery with the intimacy of the Incarnation.
