Our Lady of Medjugorje and the Queen of Peace devotion
Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina became a place of Marian pilgrimage after reported apparitions beginning in 1981. In September 2024 the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a nihil obstat regarding the spiritual experience connected with Medjugorje, recognizing abundant positive pastoral fruits and allowing public devotion. The decision did not declare the reported apparitions supernatural, and Catholics are not obliged to believe them. Official guidance therefore speaks carefully of reported apparitions and alleged messages while encouraging a Christ-centered life of prayer and conversion.
Open hands, pale garments and a crown of stars
Mary is shown standing with open hands in a gesture of welcome and intercession. Her pale pink dress, blue-white mantle and luminous field create the serene appearance associated with modern Medjugorje devotion. The ring of stars recalls the woman clothed with the sun in Revelation 12 and the wider Marian tradition; it should not be read as evidence for any individual apparition claim. The inscription identifies the image, while the title Queen of Peace directs prayer toward reconciliation in Christ.
Crafted on linden wood in Poland
Made to order in Poland on a double-primed linden wood panel, the image is printed directly onto the prepared surface and finished with decorative gold-tone metal leaf. A certificate recording the year of production and a wall hanger are included. This is a contemporary devotional icon, not an individually hand-painted work.
