Christ the Eternal High Priest
This icon presents Jesus Christ as the High Priest of the New Covenant. The Letter to the Hebrews describes him as the priest who entered the heavenly sanctuary and offered himself once for all. Catholic teaching therefore calls Christ both the priest and the offering of the Eucharistic sacrifice. The image does not place Christ among many equivalent priests; it points to the unique priesthood from which ordained ministry receives its meaning.
Iconography of the Eucharistic Christ
Christ wears liturgical vestments and holds the Eucharistic host and chalice. The bread and wine refer to the Last Supper and to his real sacramental presence, while the priestly garments translate the theology of Hebrews into a devotional image. His frontal pose and blessing direct attention to worship, sacrifice, and communion rather than to earthly rank. The gold field signifies the uncreated glory of the heavenly liturgy.
