Christ Pantocrator with the open Gospel
Jesus Christ faces the viewer with his right hand raised in blessing and an open Gospel in his left. The title Pantocrator means Almighty or Ruler of All. In Christian iconography, this image joins Christ's authority with his role as teacher: the blessing and the book are central to reading the composition.
Details of this representation
A red tunic and blue mantle frame the figure. A cross is incorporated into the halo, and the abbreviated name of Jesus Christ appears beside it. The open pages carry lettering rather than a blank surface. A green-edged ornamental border with cross motifs surrounds the image; this is part of the printed composition, not a separate jeweled frame.
Using the icon for prayer
A Pantocrator icon can form the focus of a home prayer corner or accompany a place used for reading the Gospels. The open book makes it particularly relevant to reflection on Christ's teaching.
