Description
Jesus Blessing the Children icon
Christ is shown frontally with the cross-shaped halo inscribed with the Greek divine name, holding one child and resting his hand in blessing on another. A third child approaches with flowers. The close grouping replaces a large narrative crowd with an intimate devotional composition, while Christ's open gesture keeps the Gospel's central action clear: the children are welcomed rather than turned away.
The subject comes especially from Mark 10:13-16, with parallels in Matthew and Luke. When the disciples tried to prevent people from bringing children to him, Jesus objected, welcomed them, embraced them, and blessed them. He also taught that the kingdom of God must be received like a child, a call to receptive trust and dependence rather than a sentimental claim that children are morally perfect. The icon is appropriate for family prayer, a child's room, parish nursery, school or catechetical space, and as a baptism, First Communion, or family gift.
Art Christiana makes this icon in Poland on a carefully prepared linden wood board. The surface receives two primer coats, hand-applied metal leaf, and a directly transferred image. A certificate and hanging fixture are fitted on the reverse, and the icon arrives in a protective presentation box.
