Blessed Alain de Solminihac Icon
Blessed Alain de Solminihac was a French Canon Regular of Saint Augustine, abbot of Chancelade, and Bishop of Cahors. Born in 1593, he entered Chancelade Abbey in 1613 and later led its material and spiritual renewal. Pope Urban VIII appointed him Bishop of Cahors in 1636. In the period following the Council of Trent, he carried out extensive pastoral visits and worked to renew religious discipline and parish life. Pope John Paul II beatified him on October 4, 1981.
