Christ the True Vine Icon
The title comes from John 15, where Jesus says, I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He tells the disciples to remain in him as branches remain in the vine and bear fruit. The passage speaks about communion with Christ, faithful discipleship, love, and a life that becomes fruitful through dependence on him. Christian art later joined this biblical vine imagery with the Eucharistic signs of grapes and the chalice, creating a visual meditation on both abiding in Christ and receiving the sacrament of his self-giving love.

The icon places Christ before the cross, surrounded by a vine heavy with clusters of grapes. He sits above a flowing blue form and extends an arm toward a richly decorated chalice. The wounds of the Passion remain visible, connecting the living vine with the crucified and risen Lord. The composition does not illustrate one moment in the Gospel narrative.
