Description
Humble Mother of God: Marian humility expressed in a royal image
The title “Humble Mother of God” describes the spiritual theme of this Marian image rather than a universally defined Byzantine iconographic type. Its meaning is rooted in Mary's faithful response at the Annunciation—“Let it be with me according to your word”—and in the Magnificat, where she calls herself the Lord's lowly servant. Christian humility here means truthful openness to God, not weakness or loss of dignity.
Iconography and theological meaning
Mary is crowned and carries Christ on her left arm. Her right hand gestures toward him, keeping the royal composition Christ-centered. The Child blesses and holds an orb surmounted by a cross, a sign that his sovereignty is revealed through the Cross. Mary's jeweled crown and star-marked mantle unite heavenly dignity with obedience; her title asks the viewer to see queenship as service to the incarnate Word.
For prayer and Christian devotion
The icon can accompany prayer for humility, discernment, freedom from pride, patient service, and trust in God's will. It is suitable for home prayer, religious communities, formation houses, parish offices, and Christian gifts connected with vocation or spiritual renewal. Veneration passes through the image to Mary and ultimately to Christ, not to the material object.
Crafted on linden wood in Poland
Art Christiana makes the icon to order in Poland on a double-primed linden-wood board. The image is applied directly to the prepared surface, enhanced with decorative gold-tone schlagmetal, and protected with varnish. A certificate marked with the year of production and a hanging fixture are fitted on the reverse.
