Description
Holy Face of Jesus with the Crown of Thorns Icon
Devotion to the Holy Face contemplates the person of Christ through the face marked by his Passion. In the Gospel accounts, Roman soldiers clothe Jesus in mock royal garments, press a crown of thorns onto his head, and salute him in derision as king. Christian prayer reads that humiliation in light of the Crucifixion and Resurrection: the mocked kingship reveals a Messiah who accepts suffering without surrendering truth or mercy. Later devotional tradition often presents the face on a cloth, inviting close and sober meditation.
Crown of thorns, wounded face, and IC XC
The icon isolates the face of Jesus against a light cloth. The woven crown, traces of blood, closed eyes, and restrained expression keep attention on the cost of the Passion without turning the image into spectacle. The letters IC XC are the traditional Greek abbreviation for Jesus Christ and identify the person represented. Because the composition focuses on the face rather than a full narrative scene, it is especially suited to silent prayer, examination of conscience, the Stations of the Cross, and meditation during Lent and Holy Week.
Crafted on linden wood in Poland
Art Christiana makes this icon in Poland on a carefully prepared linden wood board. The surface receives two primer coats, hand-applied metal leaf and a directly transferred image. A certificate and hanging fixture are fitted on the reverse, and the icon arrives in a protective presentation box.
The Holy Face icon fits a home prayer corner, chapel, reconciliation room, sacristy, retreat house, or Passion display. It may be chosen for someone devoted to the Passion of Christ or seeking a religious image centered on repentance, mercy, patient endurance, and the dignity of every suffering person.
