Description
Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem icon for Palm Sunday
Christ enters Jerusalem seated on a donkey, accompanied by the apostles and met by the city's people. One figure raises a palm branch, another spreads a garment beneath the animal, and a child participates at the roadside. The walled city and mountain compress the Gospel setting into a clear liturgical image. Christ's cross-shaped halo identifies the one acclaimed as king, while his humble mount rejects the imagery of military conquest.
The scene follows the Gospel accounts of Palm Sunday and recalls Zechariah's prophecy of a just king coming humbly on a donkey. The crowd's branches, garments, and cry of Hosanna recognize the one who comes in the Lord's name, yet the image also opens Holy Week and points toward the Passion. It therefore holds acclamation and self-giving kingship together. The icon is appropriate for church or chapel use, a home prayer corner, catechesis on Holy Week, or a gift connected with Palm Sunday and Christian pilgrimage.
Art Christiana makes this icon in Poland on a carefully prepared linden wood board. The surface receives two primer coats, hand-applied metal leaf, and a directly transferred image. A certificate and hanging fixture are fitted on the reverse, and the icon arrives in a protective presentation box.
