Blessed Róża Czacka Icon
Blessed Róża Czacka, known in religious life as Mother Elżbieta, was born in 1876. After losing her sight as a young woman, she devoted her life to the spiritual, educational, and practical support of people who were blind. She founded the Society for the Care of the Blind and the Franciscan Sisters Servants of the Cross. At Laski near Warsaw, the work she shaped brought together blind people, religious sisters, educators, and chaplains in a community centered on dignity and faith. She died in 1961 and was beatified in Warsaw on September 12, 2021.
