Description
Blessed Maria Teresa Ledóchowska and support for the missions
Blessed Maria Teresa Ledóchowska, also known in English as Mary Theresa, is shown in dark clothing with a white collar and an oval medal on a chain. Her uncovered head and the inscription distinguish this portrait from images of her sister, St. Ursula Ledóchowska. The halo identifies Maria Teresa as a figure of Catholic devotion.
Born in 1863, she left court employment to organize support for missions in Africa. Publishing, fundraising, and opposition to slavery became central to her work. The association she established under St. Peter Claver's patronage in 1894 developed into the Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver. Working from Europe, she helped provide missionaries with resources, including printed material in local languages. She died in 1922 and was beatified by Pope Paul VI in 1975.
Her life shows how writing, organization, and practical assistance can contribute to the Church's missionary work. The icon can accompany prayer in a home or mission-group meeting room. It is also a relevant religious gift for someone involved in Catholic publishing, parish mission support, or volunteer service.
Made in Poland on linden wood
Art Christiana makes this icon to order on a linden-wood board with two coats of primer. The image is printed directly onto the prepared surface and finished with decorative gold-tone metal leaf (schlagmetal). A certificate bearing the production year and a hanging fixture are attached to the back.
