Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko: overcome evil with good

Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko (1947–1984) was a Polish priest and chaplain closely associated with the Solidarity movement. Through his celebrated Masses for the Homeland, pastoral care, and preaching, he defended human dignity without calling for hatred or revenge. Abducted and murdered by officers of the communist security service, he is honored as a martyr whose ministry was shaped by Saint Paul’s command to overcome evil with good.

Iconography and theological meaning

He appears in a black cassock with a white clerical collar, hands joined in prayer and the Polish eagle placed discreetly at his chest. The calm face, simple priestly dress, and halo avoid political triumphalism; they present a pastor whose public courage grew from the Eucharist, prayer, and fidelity to conscience.

For prayer and Christian devotion

This icon is especially meaningful for prayer for priests, persecuted Christians, workers, public servants, and nations seeking truth and reconciliation. It asks for moral courage joined to freedom from resentment.

Crafted on linden wood in Poland

The image is printed directly onto a double-primed linden wood panel and finished with decorative gold leaf. Each made-to-order piece is produced in Poland, includes a certificate with the year of production, and has a hanger on the back. Natural wood, a luminous gold field, and precise contemporary drawing create sacred art suited to a home prayer corner, chapel, rectory, or a carefully chosen Catholic gift.
