Description
Blessed Floribert Bwana Chui, a witness against corruption
Floribert Bwana Chui Bin Kositi was born in Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1981. As a customs official, he refused to admit spoiled food that could endanger local families and rejected attempts to buy his cooperation. He was abducted and killed in Goma in 2007 at the age of twenty-six. Recognized by the Catholic Church as a martyr, he was beatified in Rome in June 2025. His life joins professional integrity with prayer, service to street children, and a practical commitment to peace.
Hand on the heart and finger raised toward heaven
The contemporary image presents Floribert as a young Congolese layman wearing glasses and a white garment with a red stole-like band. One hand rests over his heart, suggesting a conscience formed by faith, while the raised index finger directs attention toward God and the higher law that guided his decisions. The halo and gold field identify him within Christian sacred art without disguising his modern appearance.
For ethical work, public service, and young adults
The icon is especially meaningful for customs officers, civil servants, business leaders, students, young professionals, and anyone facing pressure to compromise the truth. It can support prayer for courage, clean hands, concern for public health, and peaceful resistance to corruption. It suits a home prayer space, office, school, parish room, or a gift marking graduation, a new responsibility, or service to the community.
