Archangel Gabriel — messenger of the Incarnation

Gabriel appears in the Book of Daniel as an interpreter of visions and in Luke’s Gospel as the messenger sent first to Zechariah and then to the Virgin Mary. At the Annunciation he proclaims that Mary will conceive Jesus, the Son of the Most High. His mission therefore belongs to the heart of the mystery of the Incarnation and calls for a response of attentive faith.

Iconography and theological meaning

Gabriel is shown with radiant wings and a messenger’s staff. The staff signifies delegated authority and a mission received from God; the wings express readiness to serve rather than an earthly form of power. His halo and the gold-toned field place the announcement within divine light, while the calm expression reflects the clarity and peace of God’s word.

For prayer and Christian devotion

This Archangel Gabriel icon is suited to meditation on the Annunciation, prayer for expectant parents, discernment of vocation, and work involving communication. It encourages careful listening, truthful speech, and the courage to answer God with faith.

Crafted on linden wood in Poland
