Description
Saint Monica Icon for Prayer and Family Devotion
Saint Monica, the fourth-century mother of Saint Augustine, is remembered for patient prayer, practical faith, and steadfast love within family life. Born in Tagaste in North Africa, she accompanied her husband Patricius and her children with a Christian witness shaped by perseverance rather than force. Augustine later described her tears and prayers in his Confessions. She lived to see his baptism in Milan and died at Ostia in 387. Her memorial is celebrated on August 27, the day before the feast of Saint Augustine.
Meaning of the image
The icon presents Monica in a dark veil, with one hand raised in prayer and the other held close to her heart. This gesture directs attention to intercession, interior fidelity, and the long patience associated with her life. The small image of Christ in the upper corner identifies the source of her hope, while the gold field signifies the light of God's kingdom rather than an earthly setting. For Catholic families, the image is especially meaningful in prayer for children, spouses, reconciliation, and a return to the sacraments.
Crafted on linden wood in Poland
Art Christiana makes this icon in Poland on a carefully prepared linden wood board. The surface receives two primer coats, hand-applied metal leaf and a directly transferred image. A certificate and hanging fixture are fitted on the reverse, and the icon arrives in a protective presentation box.
Placed in a home prayer corner, bedroom, chapel, or parish room, the Saint Monica icon offers a focused aid to prayer without reducing her witness to a decorative slogan. It is a thoughtful religious gift for mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, and anyone carrying a loved one in persistent prayer.
