Matylda came from a Danish-Frisian family, and was raised in the fear of God. She read many holy books, sang psalms. She grew up to be a very virtuous and pious woman, whose hand was sought by Henryk I Ptasznik, later king of Germany. They had a very harmonious marriage, they were both very pious, they were guided by God's commandments in their lives, and respected their people. Saint Matilda surrounded everyone with love, she was a comforter for the afflicted, she tried hard to help the condemned. They had five children. Her life after her husband's death was even more focused on prayer, fasting and giving very generous alms, which worried her sons, who directed her to forced isolation. Saint considered this punishment as dictated by God, and accepted it with humility. After some time, her sons, Otto and Henry, released their mother, who continued to help the unfortunate and strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ.
