King Edward was famous for his zealous faith and great piety. He cared for and loved the poor and the sick. Saint Edward lived a very modest lifestyle, quite different from what a king should. His way of being was compared to the lifestyle of monks, hence the nickname - the Confessor. King Edward was supporting churches and monasteries, trying to keep England on the best terms with Rome. He died in 1066. and was buried in the Cathedral of Westminster, which he himself had funded. There is also a certain legend related to the figure of Saint Edward. It says that the king once met Saint John in the guise of a beggar. Having no money with him, he gave the beggar a ring. After a few years, two pilgrims whom Saint John had saved from troubles in the holy land brought a ring to King Edward with information that in a few months he would meet Saint John in heaven.
