our-lady-of-the-redeemer-green-mantle-icon-on-wood
Our Lady of the Redeemer – Green Mantle Icon on Wood – Catholic Sacred Art

Our Lady of the Redeemer icon in a Mother and Child composition

The title Our Lady of the Redeemer honors Mary in relation to Jesus Christ, the one Redeemer. This reproduction shows the Mother of God holding the blessing Christ Child and presenting him to the viewer. The catalog name identifies a Green Mantle version, but the current product image shows Mary's outer garment in red and warm orange tones with a jeweled border. The description follows the visible artwork and does not assign an unsupported green color or a separate historic prototype.

Mary's role points to Christ

Mary's open hand forms a presenting gesture related to the Hodegetria tradition, while the Child raises his right hand in blessing. The Second Vatican Council teaches that Mary's maternal role neither diminishes nor adds to Christ's unique mediation; it helps the faithful adhere more closely to the Redeemer. The gold field, halos and frontal arrangement give the composition liturgical stillness, while the intimate exchange of gestures keeps the Incarnation at its center.

For prayer centered on the Incarnation

The icon may accompany Marian prayer, reflection on Christ's birth and saving mission, or a home prayer corner. It is also appropriate as a religious gift for a baptism, First Communion, wedding or house blessing. The title is devotional rather than the name of one universally standardized ancient icon type, and this piece is a contemporary reproduction rather than a historic original.

Crafted on linden wood in Poland

Art Christiana makes this icon in Poland on a carefully prepared linden wood board. The surface receives two primer coats, hand-applied metal leaf and a directly transferred image. A certificate and hanging fixture are fitted on the reverse, and the icon arrives in a protective presentation box.
